President Jeanne Smith welcomed all in celebration of our 65th Charter Night. The gala event was held in the Terrace Room of Normandie Farm in Potomac. Jim Leder started us out with the Pledge, Jeff Morrison led with singing God Bless America and Bob Gradle gave the prayer. Special guests were introduced: Marv Jackson, Lt. Gov. of Division 17 and his wife Liz Jackson, from Montgomery Village, Joyce Sharon, Lt. Gov.-Elect of Division 17 and others from Wheaton-Silver Spring who made an inter-club, Leland Cheskis, Murmi Morrill and Rita Schief. Beth Bentolila from Potomac, Maureen Miller from Mid-Montgomery County, and John Tyner from Rockville were introduced, Special guests were Aly Brokenshire from Imagination Stage, Jared Joiner from Lazarus, Carla Larrick and Carrie Stone from BCC YMCA, and Brian Nason from YMCA Ayrlawn. Also attending were Ann Black, Scott Brewer and his wife Carol, Robby Brewer, Bob Gradle and his wife Shirley, Patsy Jackson, Jim Leder and his wife Pat, Tracy Miller, Jeff Morrison and his parents Carolyn and Paul Morrison, Pat Norry and her husband Len, Bill Pennington and his wife Marcia, Jeanne Smith, Ron Spratt and his wife Ann, Pat Tiede, and Debbie Van Horn. Introduced were special guests from the YMCA, Carla Larrick, Brian Nason, and Carrie Stone. Robbie Brewer introduced Aly Brokenshire from Imagination Stage and Jared Joiner from Lazarus Leadership Fellowship Program.
Special entertainment was provided by students from Walt Whitman High School, led by Evelyn Tyan, Key Club President. The students, Carolyn Connor, Lexi Duff, Corinne Eramus, Beth Feldstein, Lena Goldweber, Dena Goodman, Karin Higuchi, Gus Holdrich, Rafaela Izurieta, and Andrew Wang sang the Star Spangled Banner and Hallelujah. Others played instruments beautifully. Distinguished Kiwanian Dr. James Leder, Jr. gave a historical summary of our clubs 65 years. Photos and old Kee-Notes were posted and it was fun to see members way back when where the hair was long, darker and lots of sideburns!

Comments on the event were later received from Board Director Jeff Morrison: This past Friday, the Bethesda Kiwanians celebrated their 65th year at Normandie Farms and what an evening! It was classy, emotional, vibrant, humorous, nostalgic, elegant, electric (Thanks, WW) and fun. For those who attended, we revel in the memories of friends and times gone by, in the night's beauty and charm. To those who did not make it -- We MISSED you, and look forward to seeing you soon. And from President Jeanne Smith: I wish to thank all members, spouses, inter-clubs and guests from our supported charities in celebration of our special 65th Charter Night! We were entertained by Walt Whitman High School Kids coordinated and led by Evelyn Tyan President of our Key Club. What a heart warming excellent performance by some very talented kids. Next, Jim Leder summarized the Historical 65 years of the wonderful service our club has performed in the community and told some personal stories.
