Happy Dollars:

Jeff Morrison HD for many birthdays in his family this month. His father Paul Morrison, former long time member of our club and Past President turned 81. Jeff's brother Eric and also former member of our club turned 48 and Jeff's son turned 8.  John Tyner HD glad to be our speaker, also for Jeanne Smith for SLP project. Jim Leder HD for a meeting he had with some potential donors for the Miracle League.

Miriam Gandell, Executive Director of The Dwelling Place, Inc. received $1000 from the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda.  George Patterson, President of The Kiwanis  Foundation presented the funds at the 18th Carnival of Chocolates event held Friday, April 30.  Also attending were Pat Tiede, Secretary and Richard Ruprecht, Director.

Speaker:

Past Governor John Tyner talked to us about membership building. Rather than start off a conversation by noting our meetings, he said to ask a potential member if they like serving children (which is our main focus). Most likely they would answer yes and then tell them you are part of such a group called Kiwanis and invite them to one of our service projects. You can also direct them to our excellent website (thanks to Pat Tiede for all her work on this). At some point John empathized to note the friendships you have made and that you hope they could make as well. John related that  churches/synagogues and your co-workers  are a good  source of new members.  When others see your passion for Kiwanis activities, they will be likely to want to join.  JUST ASK!!!

As important as recruiting new members, is to retain them by asking about any needs they might have - an ill family member or difficulty at work, etc. You may not be able to help but just asking and listening can be a boost for their morale.

A great talk. Jeff  Morrison won the 50/50 and donated it back to the club.
