Meeting Date: July 9, 2009
President John Ratnavale led us in the pledge and My Country Tis of Thee and Bob Cressy gave the prayer. John is starting his term as President for the remaining three months of the Kiwanis year. It has been an interesting challenge and each president has their own style. Pat Tiede introduced her guest, Norma Tucker.

What
is a Roundtable, you ask? In the summer months while people are
on vacation schedules, Kiwanians still like to meet for lunch.

to see you next week!

Speaker:
Pat Tiede introduced our speaker Dr. James Flood, the founder of ProHealth Chiropractic Wellness Center which has served the community since 1983. Dr. Flood is a graduate of New York Chiropractic College and licensed in the state of Maryland. His philosophy is that health care is a partnership between doctor and patient. He feels that listening to the patient and learning about their lifestyle can give great insight as to why problems develop and how they can be eliminated. Each patient is treated as an individual and a program of care is designed specifically for them based on an extensive history and a thorough examination. This is his third presentation to our club.

President John Ratnavale welcomes Dr. James Flood as our speaker. |
In this action photo he got himself all twisted up and had to be removed from the room. Naw--not really, but it's a great photo. |
He gave a definition of health. It is not just absence of illness but 100% optimum function of the entire body. He related his personal experience of developing migraine headaches at age 5 and needing more and more medications to control it. At age 16 he went for his first chiropractic treatment and was off all his meds shortly thereafter. Dr. Flood said there are five keys to health (actually six- the last is to have healthy grandparents - good genes).
1. Regular exercise - does not have to be elaborate- just walking is great.
2. Proper nutrition - eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
3. Proper rest - get enough sleep. Use a firm mattress. It needs to be changed every 5-7 years.
Don't put more than one pillow under your head and sleep on your back or side (not on your stomach).
4. Positive mental outlook.
5. Proper nerve supply to the various organs of the body. If the bones in your spine (vertebra) are mis-
aligned they can pinch the nerve and cause dysfunction of the involved body part.
The chiropractor simply adjusts the spine to realign the vertebra and allow the body to heal itself. Not all conditions are able to be treated by a chiropractor. Dr. Flood does refer to MD's when needed. A good Q & A followed. One question was "Why don't more MD's refer patients to chiropractors?" Dr. Flood answered that part of the reason is fear of competition. As an MD myself I agree that is part of the reason but another is that many diseases (cancer, diabetes, hypertension, etc.) require medications or surgery. But the first four parts of healthy living above can be used by everyone- regardless if they need a chiropractor or an MD.
Bernadeen Zivkovic won the 50/50.
