Serving the Community Since 1945
Meeting Date: June 4, 2009
President Jim Leder opened the meeting. Bob Gradle gave the Pledge, and Debbie Van Horn started the "God Bless America." Bob Cressy delivered the invocation.
Announcements:
Jim introduced our guests from the Montgomery County Department of Parks: Gabriel Albornoz, Director; Dean Turnbull, Park Manager; Jeffrey Bourne, Division Chief; Mark Winans, Manager; and Pat Sullivan, Sports Recreational Specialist. The Miracle League of Montgomery County is requesting approval of a Public Private Partnership to locate Maryland's first Miracle League field at South Germantown Recreational Park. The community meeting is an opportunity for the public to earn about the proposal before a concept plan is presented to the Montgomery County Planning Board for approval. The meeting is Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Discovery Sports Center, South Germantown Recreational Park, 18031 Central Park Circle, Boyds, MD.
(Directions: From I-270, take exit 15B (MD 118 South). Follow 118 South approximately 3 miles. Turn right on Germantown Park Drive. Proceed to the circle, go halfway around it (straight) and continue until you reach the Discovery Sports Center on the right.)
It is important that Trustees of the Miracle League attend. Please contact Jim Leder if you have any questions.

| Gabe Albornoz accepted a check for $1,500 from President Jim Leder. The Montgomery County Recreation Department will manage the Miracle League along with the parents who will be the Board of Directors. All we have to do is build the field! | Jim Leder and John Ratnavale hold up the banner that displays the honors our club has received over the years. Both Jim and John have served the club well as along with Jeanne Smith and Debbie Van Horn, they each served 3 months as President for 2008-2009. All have been past presidents before. How is that for dedication? |
Happy Dollars:
Jeanne Smith HD for the Camp Friendship Cleanup, Student Leadership Banquet and the YMCA Family Fun Day. Lots of work but she's glad it is over--Jeanne cooked over 200 hamburgers and hot dogs on May 31 and the club contributed over $400 to the Y. Bob Cressy HD for the great work of Jeanne Smith and Dick Ruprecht who are advisors to the Key Clubs. Pat Tiede HD for the entourage from the Montgomery County Recreation Department, the successful 3 months of President Jim Leder and for John Ratnavale who used his sewing skills for our second banner. Debbie Van Horn HD for all the work Jeanne did at the youth awards banquet, for flipping burgers and thanks to those who are supporting the RICA tournament next Monday. Dick Ruprecht HD for the Kiwanis scholarships given to Walter Johnson -- all essays were excellent and for the IRS granting tax exemption status to the Miracle League. Now we can do fund raising! Gary Boswell HD for the five gentleman from Montgomery County who are supporting the Miracle League and for the money the Sherwood Key Club raised in the Relay for Life last week. Bob Gradle HD for Jim Leder and all the work he has done. Jim Leder HD because he is happy to be a member!

An After thought: Let us all remember the Kiwanians - past and present WWII vets on the 65th Anniversary of D-Day - June 6, 1944. Bill Pennington and his bride, Marcia, Scott Brewer, Bob Gradle, John Neuenschwander, Parker Dorman, and of course Bob Vigderhouse, recipient of the Bronze Star. June 14 is also Flag Day. Be proud to display the American Flag!!!
Our guest Dean Turnbull won the 50/50 -- and he graciously returned it to the club.
Pat Tiede, editor for the day.
Bob Cressy, photographer.
