President Jim Leder requested members to write “the reason you joined Kiwanis.” Following is the third of four comments received thus far (paraphrased for space reasons).
It is hard to believe but I think I joined Kiwanis in 1991 or so. The reason was Scott Brewer invited
me. I think I said yes once but never followed up and he gently persisted and I joined. I have kept up
my membership primarily because of the fellowship but also for a chance to serve the young people
in our community and for a chance to meet other people I otherwise would not know.

SPEAKER:
Shira Oler introduced our speaker. Margie Hackett, a RN certified in cardiac care who is Care Manager of Elderwell. This is a program sponsored by Suburban Hospital to help seniors stay in their home and to help them transition to supervised care when they need it. The nurses work only in Montgomery County and they visit cardiac patients and diabetic patients in their home to assess them and help them manage their conditions so that they don't have to be admitted to the hospital because of not taking medications . One recommendation is for everyone to have Power of Attorney for health care and for financial areas so that if you are incapacitated someone can make decisions for you. They also assess patient for early dementia. An interesting talk.
Gary Boswell won the 50/50.
