Announcements:
Great to see Jeff Morrison. Jeff is hoping to rejoin the club in the next few months. Also guests from John L. Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (JGL-RICA) Tom Pukalski, CEO and Solomon Teller, Head of Investment Analytics at ProFunds, an investment management company. Solomon supports RICA through the ProFunds Group. It was Tom's birthday and we all sang Happy Birthday to him. While Scott Brewer was on his biking trip, his wife Carol Brewer had a fall and is recovering at home after a short stay in the hospital. A get-well card was circulated for signatures.
The Kiwanis Foundation presented a check of $7000 to RICA. Debbie Van Horn and Tom Pukalski thanked the club for their donation. Debbie reminded our club that this money is used for scholarships for college for RICA graduates. The money is given directly to the college.

***This is a big District-wide project involving all able bodied Kiwanians and Key Clubbers to rake, weed, spread mulch, clean cabins and boats to get the campgrounds ready for the summer program. Attendees are kids with cancer who attend the camp free of charge. Kiwanis makes it happen by participating in this hands-on project for the kids! Arrive at 8 AM, have some breakfast, and you will be home by 1 PM.
President Jim Leder requested members to write "the reason you joined Kiwanis." Following is the first of four comments received thus far:
Upon retirement in 2002 after a 35 year interesting career in the field of non-profit association management, I wanted to spend my free time in MAKING A DIFFERENCE--not cruising, shopping, traveling, or relaxing. I found the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda offered new friends, new activities, expanded my horizons, and is most importantly, a very worthwhile cause of helping children in the community. Through Kiwanis activities I am able to use the skills I acquired through my career and I feel I am indeed making a difference!!
Patricia Tiede, joined 2005
