SPEAKER:
President-Elect Bernadeen Zivkovic introduced our speaker, Anita Potter. Wellness Director with the YMCA. She began her career in health and wellness 15 years ago as a personal trainer. She is a Certified Conditioning specialist through NSPA (National Strength Professionals Association) and a Certified Group Exercise through AFAA (American Fitness and Aerobics Association), and a National Certified trainer for the YMCA of the USA for Foundations of Group Exercise and Foundations of Strength Training and Conditioning. Her topic on “Fitting Fitness in Everyday” was very informative. Twenty years ago we did not know the sex of our unborn child, let alone have multiple births going beyond twins. We tend to lose track of our own health. Anita pointed out seven benefits of regular exercise: improves mood and stimulates the chemicals in our brain, combats all chronic diseases, helps maintain weight--"calories out/calories in", strengthens heart and lungs, sleep patterns are better, prevents injuries, improves balance, and can be fun. Whatever activity you do should be enjoyable such as walking with a buddy or dancing. Park far away from the store, take the stairs and establish a schedule of regular exercise....plan it in your daily activities. Some strength training should also be included. Remember "better is better, more is not better."
Pat Tiede won the 50/50 and returned it to the House Fund.
