Happy Dollars:

Bob Cressy, Debbie Van Horn, Dick Ruprecht, John Ratnavale, Pat Tiede and Jeanne Smith all had Happy Dollars for our successful and inspiring Charter Night, for our speaker, Kay Bowman;  and for our guests, John Durfee a former member and Jeff Morrison, who will rejoin our group.  Of course, everyone was 'happy to be here' and Jim Leder HD in appreciation for all the cards, calls and visits while recuperating at Suburban Hospital and at home.  Also HD for the 3 angels (you remember Charlie's Angels?) -- Jeanne Smith, Debbie Van Horn, and Pat Tiede for organizing the great Charter Night.  Another HD for Bernadeen Zivkovic who will be the Chairman of the 2009 Golf Tournament.  Jeff Morrison HD was for the care and compassion our group has for each other and past members.  The Charter Night was awesome.

Speaker:

Sue Kirk introduced our speaker Kay Bowman who is Branch Manager of the Bethesda Library on Arlington Road in Bethesda.  Libraries, particularly in this economy, are a hot spot.  Where else can you get free internet, resources for the job hunter, help with resume writing, classes on English, help with homework, help with applying for a job online, help with learning the catalogue system and the internet.  Book discussion groups have incredible speakers on art and music programs.  Besides free movies that can be checked out, there are "Play Aways" which is a small cassette the size of a deck of cards that runs on batteries -- a complete book!  Kay mentioned that in surveys Libraries are at the top of the list of public services offered free to users.  Libraries are considered as essential and are a solid investment of our tax dollars.  The budget will be cut back which may cause a redistribution of hours.  A very informative talk about a very important attribute to our community.  Thank you Kay!

Pat Tiede won the 50/50.

Pat Tiede, editor-for-the day.
