Speaker:
Program Chair,
Jeanne Smith introduced Kathy Stevens,
a lawyer and counselor and the Director of the Annual Fund of
Montgomery College. Montgomery College (MC) has 25,000 students in
the degree programs plus another 25,000 in continuing
education/adult education. The annual cost for a full-time degree
student is about $5,000, which is much much less than the state
university. MC students have overcome many obstacles to become
students and they are very grateful for the opportunity. In year
2008 the Annual Fund will award over $1million in scholarship money.
Kathy also spoke of the spectacular new
Cafritz Foundation
Art Center
which recently opened
in downtown Silver Spring.
This building is the home to the School of Art +
Design, the Arts and Humanities Department, and the campus computer
support system. There are also plans to build a new Science Lab on
the Rockville Campus. Thanks Kathy for a great talk.
Guest Betty Martinelli won the 50/50
