President Liz Quinn opened our meeting with the Pledge, singing of My Country 'Tis of Thee and Bill Hague delivered the prayer.

Announcements:

President Liz Quinn welcomed our guests Meagan Morse and Nora Cloherty, two outstanding Key Clubbers from Walter Johnson High School, and Jared Joiner, representing one of our annual charities, Lazarus Leadership Program.  Liz also welcomed Bill Hague back after his vacation.  Bob Quinn, Chair of the 35th Annual Golf Tournament, (one of the oldest continuous golf tournaments in MontgomeryButternut Creek Cabins in the North Georgia Mountains County, and the only fundraising done by Bethesda Kiwanians for our 16 well deserving charities, has done phone calling and area solicitations for golfers and donors for the silent auction.  Golfers must have funds in by August 22 to take advantage of the early bird special.  At the present time we have 20 golfers -- room for more!!!

Happy Dollars:

Liz Quinn had a HD for our guests from Walter Johnson.  Bob Gradle's HD's were for his granddaughter who at the tender age of 16 has a golf handicap of 9 and one for his most beautiful great grandbaby Ella.  Bill Hague HD for being back with the group again.  Dick Ruprecht HD was for the outstanding students from Walter Johnson (you can tell from his sincere enthusiasm that he really is proud of his interaction with the Key Club at WJ).   Robby Brewer had HD for his son Scott who will soon graduate and has chosen to go to Officer's training and join the U. S. Marines.  Sue Kirk HD was for the key clubber's leadership.  Pat Tiede HD was for a good report from her orthopedic surgeon and better mobility on her left knee.

Speaker:

Dick Ruprecht, liaison for the Walter Johnson Key Club proudly introduced Meagan Morse, co-president of Walter Johnson Key Club and winner of the scholarship from Kiwanis.  Meagan will attend Brown University.  She told of the many varied activities that she and Nora Cloherty participated in  - TAG (Threads Across Ghana) a clothing drive, Children's Inn, and Senior Citizen Thanksgiving luncheons just to name a few.  Robby Brewer introduced Jared Joiner from the Lazarus Program.  Jared, a BCC high school graduate is now a a teacher of a charter school in D.C. and he explained the many activities that Lazarus provides for the students.  Kudos to both Dick and Robby who have been doing their liaison work for years with these youth groups.

A Board of Directors meeting followed the luncheon.

Liz Quinn won the 50/50.

Pat Tiede, editor-for-the day.
