PLG Gary Boswell led us in the
pledge and My Country 'Tis of Thee and Rev. John Walker gave the
prayer.
Guests: Returning from Florida, long time Club member and Past
President Steve Frank. Steve is a great guy, for years a loyal
member – he and his wife, Lynn, are now living in Florida,
setting golf records! Also, Jarrad Joiner, a guest of Robbie
Brewer and recipient of our Club’s Lazarus Leadership Foundation
award back in 2002.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Robbie Brewer presented a $1,000 check for the Lazarus Leadership
program, which our Club has sponsored for many years. Under this
program, especially promising students are selected from area high
schools - they must initiate and carry out a new service project in the
community.
Special Note - our lunch meeting on
Thursday November 29 will be held at Fisher House, located on the campus
of the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. Jeanne will need to get your
name and Social Security number to be able to enter Navy Med.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Bob Cressy- 5 HD for our Club's support during his term as
Kiwanis Capital District Governor this past year. The gavel
was passed to the incoming governor, Art Riley, at a special
dinner meeting of Art's Club in Westminster, Maryland, last week- with
attendance by 7 of our Club members. Bob also told a funny story
about showing up at Wheaton High School for the Wheaton Club pancake
breakfast - no one was there, because he showed up a week early.

Jim Aylor- HD for the Governor’s Dinner, also for the Childrens
Inn dinner that our club prepared and served on Sunday October 14-
Another HD for Steve Frank - a fellow grad of St. John’s High
School.
Debbie Van Horn- for our speaker Dr. David Reitman who is
also the Pediatrician for JLG-RICA where Debbie works, another HD for
Steve.
Jeanne Smith- HD for Dr. Reitman, HD for Steve.
Steve Frank- 5 HD glad to be back to our Club, HD for Gov. Bob
Cressy - Steve knows how difficult running for governor can be.
Gary Boswell- HD for Gov. Bob and Steve Frank.
SPEAKER OF THE DAY:
Debbie Van Horn introduced our speaker Dr. David Reitman,
chairman of the Pediatrics Department at Suburban Hospital (our Club is
in the process of donating $50,000 to help furnish a room in Suburban’s
Pediatrics unit). There are now both in-patient and out-patient beds in
the unit, and about 20 patients are seen daily. The unit is staffed with
Board-certified pediatricians and pediatric nurses, and is open 24/7.
Common conditions treated include asthma, minor trauma such as sprained
ankles, knees, mild concussions, fevers, sore throats, etc. Dr. Reitman
is also the staff pediatrician at JLG-RICA, where he sees severely
emotional disturbed children.
