April 24, Thursday Club Meeting at Tragara ! Nadia Elguindy will be talking to us about Potomac Riverkeeper. She has administrative experience from the Counter-Terrorist Financing Network in Washington, DC, where she authored reports and case studies on terrorism issues. Nadia has also worked with the Children's Defense Fund & Capital Development Strategies.
April 26, Saturday Inter-Club Opportunity Spiritual Aims Breakfast.  Leisure World 9:00 a.m. at Leisure World.  Our very own Bill Hague will be guest speaker.

Service Project REBUILDING TOGETHER PROJECT DAY.  Three shifts - 8 am-Noon; Noon-5pm and ALL DAY.  No skills needed, just a smile and work gloves.  Sign-up sheets will be at luncheons. District 17 Fundraiser Olney Theater, the production of 1776.  Save the date now!!  Finally, a history lesson you won’t sleep through! 1776 is a light-hearted look at John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson as they grapple with the Continental Congress and independence from Britain.  Winner of the Tony award for Best Musical

Returning to our club, William Offutt, will speak on the history of Bethesda which includes the formation of our own club, and the formation of the Bethesda YMCA.  Over the years we have helped youth in three local high schools and we brought the first iron lung to Suburban Hospital.

Club Meeting at Tragara ! Marc Leepson is a journalist, historian and the author of six books, most recently Desperate Engagement, the story of the Civil War Battle of Monocacy and Confederate General Jubal Early’s subsequent march on Washington (Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press, 2007),  In honor of Flag Day, he will talk about Flag: An American Biography (Thomas Dunne Books, 2005), the history of the Stars and Stripes from the beginnings to today.

Club Meeting at Tragara ! Representatives from Adventure Theater, Michael Bobbitt, Artistic Director and Meryl Cullom, Education Director will talk about programs including theater performances for families and school groups from under-served schools to performances at reduced costs. Adventure Theatre, founded in 1951, is the longest-running theatre program for children and families in the Washington metropolitan area and has been one of the main attractions at Glen Echo Park since 1971.

Service Project Veteran's Day Service-- 10:30 AM - Bethesda Kiwanis Club will again host the annual Veteran's Day Ceremony at Veteran's Park in Woodmont Triangle. Working with American Legion Post 105, the guest speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel Jonas Vogelhut.
November 13, Thursday Club Meeting at Tragara You won't want to miss these speakers.  Gunnery Sergeant Michael Abragan, US Marine Corp and Ms. Haf Zink, a volunteer project officer and fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Care Program. Sgt. Abragan will speak about his experience as a recruiter in today's Marine Corps and his service overseas in Iraq.  Ms. Zink, with a son in Iraq will share how her charitable program delivers Holiday military stockings filled with special gifts to our wounded heroes at Walter Reed Army and Bethesda Naval hospitals.

November 22, Saturday Service Project Homeless Walk on the Mall.  Support a student walker for $15.00.  Sponsored by Bethesda Cares, our Key Clubbers will meet as a group at the White Flint Metro at 7:15 a.m.  Join Dick Ruprecht and Debra Van Horn for this fun walk on the Mall.

Annual Joint Rotary/Kiwanis Meeting

Our joint meeting will feature Jody Olsen, Deputy Director of the Peace Corp. She was  nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate in February 2002 to serve as the deputy director of the Peace Corps.
November 27, Thursday Service Project YMCA Turkey Chase.  The largest race in Montgomery County.  The Turkey Chase Race is designed for the whole family.  There is a 10K, 2-mile fun run and a 50 meter tot trot.  Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed for marshals, etc. For more information and registration on-line, go to www.turkeychase.com.

Mark your calendar for your first Holiday Party.  We will convene at 7 p.m. for Cocktail Party Buffet -- heavy hors d'ouvres and vino or cash bar.  Of course we will have our Secret Santa for fun and surprises.  Price $21 per person and reservations are needed.

Annual Rockville Club's Pancake Breakfast.  All you Can Eat Pancake & Sausage Breakfast.  7 a.m. to 12 noon.  Montgomery College, 51 Manakee St., Rockville.  $6 in advance, $7 at door.

Service Project DINNER AT NIH CHILDREN'S INN.  A real hands-on project.  All participants are requested to be at the Children's Inn by 5 pm; dinner is served at 6 pm.  We prepare a dinner for the patients and their families.  Our theme will be JOYOUS SEASON.  We will also be joined by the Olney Kiwanis Club.  So, if you will be able to join us, please notify Liz Quinn ASAP and she will tell you what you can bring.
