Membership Information

Our Bethesda Kiwanis Club serves more than 300 young people across Montgomery County, Maryland - and we're also all about fellowship, networking, and goodwill building opportunities.  Click here for our Club Brochure.  Here are some facts about Kiwanis International and about our Club:

Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

The Bethesda Kiwanis Club, chartered on February 27, 1945, is the oldest Kiwanis Club in Montgomery County, Maryland and offers many opportunities for fellowship.  We are currently 31 members strong.

Through our charitable arm, the Bethesda Kiwanis Foundation, we support more than a dozen children-serving organizations and activities in Montgomery County with contributions totaling more than $40,000 per year.

Throughout the year, we participate in numerous hands-on projects that serve the needs of children in the Bethesda community, and we conduct an annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Bethesda Kiwanis Foundation.

At our twice-a-month luncheon meetings, we enjoy world class speakers offering expert insights on current events in our community and around the world.  We also enjoy a number of social events each year such as our annual dinner celebrating the club's charter.

Non-members are invited and encouraged to visit a luncheon meeting.  Click on the Calendar link above to see a list of our upcoming meetings, speakers, and activities and please plan to attend.

When you plan to attend, please call or email at least two days in advance so we're able to give the restaurant an accurate head count.  Click the Contact Us link for contact information.

We encourage you to consider applying for membership and to participate in our service projects while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow club members.

Current costs:

Lunch: $18 members, $18 guests

Initiation Fees: $50

Annual Dues: $175

It is suggested that members participate in at least two luncheons a month and serve on one committee or participate in one activity.

We also encourage Bethesda businesses to support our mission by sponsoring membership for their employees and by sponsoring our fundraisers.  Bethesda Kiwanis offers an excellent means to get your business involved with the community.  Here is an excellent example.

The Objects of Kiwanis

  • To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than the material values of life.
  • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
  • To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
  • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
  • To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
  • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Through Kiwanis membership, individuals give their talent, time, and love to those in need.  More than 600,000 Kiwanians and K-family members worldwide dedicate themselves to a way of life in which they believe.

The Name

The name Kiwanis stems from a North American Indian phrase, which, like many aboriginal terms, had a variety of meanings, including; “We have a good time,” “We make a noise,” or “We trade.”
