Kee-Notes

Weekly Newsletter of the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda, Maryland

Serving the Community Since 1945

Meeting Date: March 4, 2010

President Jeanne Smith presided and led us in the Pledge.  Richard Ruprecht led us in singing God Bless America and Shira Oler gave the prayer. It was wonderful to see the return of Past President Debbie Van Horn and Pat Norry who returned from an island vacation away from all the snow.  Jim Leder, Bob Cressy and Pat Tiede attended the 50th Charter Anniversary of CKI combined with the Capital District Mid-Winter Conference for a gala celebration at Crystal City Hyatt, Arlington, VA.  Kiwanians mainly from the Northern Virginia, Potomac, Mason Dixon and Heart of Virginia Regions and over 200 College & University CKI members made this a real K-Family event.  Jim Leder did a one-man show, assisted with various members from District 17 who were present, with a Miracle League display.

Pat Tiede, Bethesda Kiwanis Club Secretary, PLG & PP Jim Leder and Lieutenant Governor- Elect Joyce Sharon staff the Miracle League display at the Hyatt on Saturday during the convention.  Teamwork is the key!

Kiwanis International President Paul Palazzolo offers a fundraising idea to PLG and Miracle League Baseball Field Project Leader, Jim Leder:  Go to the KI Convention in Las Vegas in June and bet on …  Jim said he will be there! And everywhere!

Kiwanis International President Paul Palazzolo of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Springfield, IL, is presented the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation Honorary Membership by Past Governor Bob Cressy at the District Mid-Winter and CKI 50th Charter Anniversary Convention at the Crystal City Hyatt, February 26th, 2010.  Paul was surprised and felt honored.

Past Governor Bob Cressy and PLG Jim Leder, “Frick & Frack” of days ago, pose with Jim’s passion the building of the Miracle League Baseball Field project sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda and supported by Division 17 as the fund raising recipient of the upcoming play “Triumphant of Love”, April 25th

Happy Dollars:

Pat Norry HD for recent trip away from all the snow.  Shira Oler HD for her upcoming trip to Mexico, Richard Ruprecht HD because he is happy to hear that Maryland beat Duke!!  Also that the Miracle League is now on Facebook-- Go to Miracle League of Montgomery County and become a friend or ask for donations.  Debbie Van Horn 5 HD was for a letter received from a parent whose daughter graduated from RICA.  The father expressed his gratitude for the scholarship his daughter received which from the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda that provided her recognition of her potential and raised her confidences to succeed in higher education.

Following the luncheon the monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held.  The Board unanimously passed to start our luncheon meetings at 12 noon sharp - not 11:45.  Not 12:15 -- 12 noon sharp!!!

Pat Norry won the 50/50 and returned it to the club.
