President Jeanne
Smith opened the meeting in the cafeteria of Christ Episcopal
Church in Kensington. Jim Leder led with the Pledge, and
Bob Cressy led in God Bless America, William Hague gave the
prayer. This was a meeting of several clubs from Division 17 to kick
off the campaign for the Annual Fundraiser that will be held on
Sunday, April 25 at Olney Theater. The proceeds will benefit the
Miracle League of Montgomery County. It was wonderful to have
the following people join us: Beth Bentolilo and Nancy
Cressy from Potomac; Kelly Boswell, Marty Eley,
Charles Falck, Rudy Falle, Stan Miller, Rawligh
Sybrant, and Bill Miller from the Olney Club (they held
their weekly meeting on site); Carla Daly, Fran Ware,
Joyce Sharon, and Olga Bruck from Wheaton-Silver Spring
Club; Betsy Gafney, Debbie Liverpool (a former member of
Bethesda Club), Betty Martinelli, Tom McIsaac, Stacy
Miller, Jon Snellings, Bill Stabler, John
Tyner, Barbara Leurig and Bonnie Buehler from
Rockville Club; Lt. Governor Marvin Jackson and Liz Jackson
from Montgomery Village. Bethesda Club members attending were Jim
Aylor, Ann Black, Scott Brewer, Bob Cressy
(dual member of Potomac and Bethesda Clubs), Jim Leder,
Harry Lowe, Jeff Morrison, Pat Norry, Shira Oler,
Jeanne Smith and Pat Tiede. Grace Fielder who
created the field design for the Miracle League was introduced.

leadership in getting the Miracle League off the ground, Debbie
Liverpool HD for seeing so many clubs represented in one room,
Liz and Marvin Jackson HD for the excitement of the
upcoming fundraiser, Scott Brewer HD++ for a great kickoff for
the Miracle League which will benefit the whole county, John Tyner
HD who brought a triple inter-club to the meeting. Rudy Falle
HD for a triple interclub for Olney, Beth Bentolilo HD
that her father is on the road to recovery, Jim Aylor HD
for a smashing kickoff for a great project, Joyce Sharon HD for
a successful fundraiser.
Speakers:
Jim Leder,
President of the Miracle League Trustees gave a brief background of
what has been accomplished the past three years. He read letters from
participants in other Miracle Leagues throughout the United States.
The Miracle League field is a partnership with Montgomery County Park
and Planning and will be located in Germantown, MD near the Soccer
Complex. He enumerated ways to raise funds, ask for pro bono work to
be done by contractors, electricians, cement companies and sign
makers. The Miracle League is a 501c3 organization. The actual
scheduling of teams will be done by the Montgomery County recreation

The Miracle League will have a wide impact on children
in the area who are physically challenged.
Joyce Sharon, Lt. Governor-Elect, and Chairman of the 2010 Division 17 Fundraiser
spoke to the group about this year’s fundraiser which will be held on
Sunday, April 25 at The Olney Theater. Tickets will be $45 per
person, the Silent Auction begins at
1 pm, Show starts at
2 pm and the Silent Auction will continue to 6 pm.
The show is a musical comedy entitled
“Triumph of Love.” There are fifteen musical numbers.
All club members can help by selling tickets to friends and neighbors,
contributing items to the Silent Auction, and placing advertisements
in the Program. Everyone in the Kiwanis Clubs will have an
opportunity to be a sales person for this grand fun event.
Remember the Division Fundraiser benefits our beloved ML
project, we're very fortunate to be the recipients!! Please, we need
every Bethesda Kiwanians support!!! For
